New Ambulance Services Contract for EMS
10 January 2008
EMS has secured a new contract for the provision of high dependency patient
transport services. The contract, with Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation
Trust, is to provide the Trust with an emergency ambulance and crew operating
from the Company’s forward operating base at White Waltham in Berkshire. The
ambulance and crew will provide services to the Trust’s patients in the Milton
Keynes area.
The Company was founded in 2007 to provide Independent Sector ambulance services to the public on behalf of the NHS. The company offers a flexible resource and technical expertise enabling NHS ambulance trusts optimise their operational performance and meet increasingly demanding national targets.
The 2005 DH document Creating a patient-led NHS: Delivering the NHS
Improvement Plan presents an exciting if challenging agenda for NHS acute
trusts. The impact of patient choice for diagnostics and elective surgery is a
major innovation that will test all acute trusts. Not only will clinical services
need to be of the highest quality but also the environment of healthcare
provision and patient support services will need to raise their game.
Most Trusts will require additional resources, as well as other important operational efficiencies, to achieve success in this new era of healthcare provision. Some new resources will be provided by the independent sector in order to meet the patient driven focus, not least in the provision of high quality patient transport services.
EMS, which is based at White Waltham in Berkshire, will provide an ambulance and crew to work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Trust.
Rupert Gather, the Chairman of EMS has said: “As we approach the new national priority of “Call Connect” in April 2008, all NHS ambulance trusts will need to increase their operational capacity to meet the new and demanding response time targets. Increasing operational capacity takes time and resources and we in EMS are ready, willing and able to provide the additional capacity now and in an affordable, responsive manner at very short notice.
We are committed to high quality emergency ambulance services. The experienced operational team is ex-NHS and the company has built a strong general management, medical, financial and IT team around them. As part of its integrated governance agenda, the company is particularly committed to clinical governance and it is at the heart of all operational activity.”
