EMS Extends Emergency Ambulance Support to Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust
1 April 2008
Evolved Medical Services Limited has extended its services for emergency ambulance services to Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust (GWAS). The Company will now provide additional emergency ambulances and rapid response vehicles with full trained crews led by paramedics in response to tasking from NHS ambulance controllers in Avon and Gloucestershire.

GWAS, in its Strategy & Corporate Objectives 2007/08 and Operational Plan 2007/08, declares that its purpose is to ensure the right care, at the right place and at the right time. The Trust recognises that establishing sufficient capacity in operational services and clinical care is critical to achieving the Trust’s strategic aims. Further in building operational capacity, the Trust is moving towards a diversity of providers and that this will include the greater involvement of the independent sector in providing the range of required ambulance services. The need to bring in new skills and innovative practice is understood by the Trust.

EMS was founded in 2007 to provide independent sector ambulance services to the public on behalf of the NHS and to private healthcare companies. The company offers a flexible resource and technical expertise enabling NHS ambulance trusts and other organisations optimise their operational performance and meet increasingly demanding national targets.

As the new national priority of “Call Connect” impacts on performance and reputation, all NHS ambulance trusts are increasing their operational capacity to meet the new and demanding response time targets. Increasing operational capacity takes time and resources and we in EMS are ready, willing and able to provide the additional capacity now and in an affordable, responsive and highly professional manner at very short notice.

Philip Sanders, the Chief Executive of EMS has said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our emergency ambulance and rapid response vehicle support to GWAS. We will build on the experience we gained serving the Trust over the past months.

We are committed to high quality emergency ambulance services. The experienced operational team is ex-NHS and the company has built a strong general management, medical, financial and IT team around them. As part of its integrated governance agenda, the company is particularly committed to clinical governance and it is at the heart of all operational activity.”
